Hebrew–Arabic conversion: why it's marked as beta
January 9, 2026 · 3 min read
An accurate Hebrew-to-Arabic mapping requires more than knowing key positions — it also requires understanding how special letterforms behave when typed, like the 'lam-alif' ligature (لا), which in certain cases should be produced from a combination of two characters.
In Tiklud's current mapping, the key that should produce the لا ligature is still simplified to a single ل character. That's a known, temporary gap — not a silent error — and Tiklud shows a visible beta indicator any time Arabic is the conversion target, so people know to double-check the result.
What this means for you
If you're relying on Arabic conversion for anything important, review the output before using it. We're working on verifying the mapping with native speakers and will update the indicator once that's complete.
